Extensive consultations between Qatar and Egypt for a ceasefire before Eid al-Fitr/What are the provisions of the new plan?

PNN – Informed sources reported extensive consultations between Cairo and Doha to establish a ceasefire in Gaza before Eid al-Fitr.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Sputnik Arabic, informed sources report efforts by Egypt and Qatar to achieve a ceasefire and prisoner exchange before Eid.

These sources stated that the Egyptian and Qatari delegations have held intensive negotiations with the parties in order to reach an agreement on the exchange of prisoners and a temporary ceasefire before the Muslim Eid al-Fitr and the Jewish Passover holidays.

Informed sources added that Hamas has given a positive signal to the proposals made in this regard, and the Egyptian and Qatari delegations have held a series of meetings with the delegation of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, led by Khalil Al-Hayyah, in Qatar.

These proposals are based on the return of the Israeli army to the positions it was stationed in before the current round of attacks resumed, as well as opening the Rafah crossing to the sick and wounded, and allowing aid to enter Gaza.

This new plan is based on a mechanism that existed in the first phase of negotiations. According to this plan, 50 Palestinian prisoners with long life sentences would be released in exchange for the release of Israeli prisoners.

Hours earlier, a prominent Egyptian official had said in an interview with the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar that the US position on the prisoner exchange agreement had become more positive, and that we hope that an opening will be reached in the ceasefire agreement negotiations in the coming hours.

Previously, Suhail Al-Hindi, a member of the political bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), had said: Intensive talks are underway with mediators and we hope to reach an agreement for a ceasefire in the coming days.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Al-Hindi added: We are negotiating with great flexibility to achieve a ceasefire that includes stopping the aggression and lifting the siege.

He added: We hope that these negotiations will lead to a halt to the killing of Gaza residents in the coming days.
