Financial Times: America asked China to invite the countries of the region to maintain peace

PNN – The Financial Times newspaper wrote: Washington has asked China to use its relations with Iran and other Middle Eastern countries to call for calm and prevent the spread of conflicts at the same time as Israel’s ground operations in Gaza.

According to Pakistan News Network’s report on Saturday, this English newspaper added: America raised this issue with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his three-day visit to Washington.

Financial Times added: America is worried about Iran’s possible military action in support of Hamas or Hezbollah, which could expand conflicts in the Middle East region.

A senior American official said after the country’s officials met with China’s foreign minister: We strongly asked China to adopt a more constructive approach, which includes using their interactions with the Iranians to call for peace.

He added: It is clear that China has relations in the region… We think that this country should use these relations to invite all parties to calm down.

The Financial Times wrote that the Zionist regime has criticized China for refusing to criticize Hamas for its attacks. Earlier this month, China’s foreign minister told his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan that the Israeli army’s response to these attacks “was beyond the scope of self-defense.”

In the first visit of China’s foreign minister to Washington since 2018, Wang had 10-hour meetings with US President Joe Biden, Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken, and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

The Chinese side and American officials discussed a possible meeting between Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting in San Francisco next month.

The American official informed of the meetings between the American and Chinese sides refused to say whether an agreement was reached in this regard or not, but said “the American government is preparing such a meeting.”

The White House announced that the United States raised a series of issues during Wang’s visit to Washington, including “China’s dangerous and illegal actions in the southern waters of this country” and emphasized the need for peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

The American official added: Washington stressed the importance of reestablishing military channels between the two countries. China blocked this channel of communication between the two countries after Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan last year.

He stated: America emphasized the resumption of this military channel after the dismissal of Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu. China had previously refused to hold a meeting between Li Shangfu and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin because the Biden administration did not lift sanctions imposed on Li by his predecessor Donald Trump in 2018.
