PNN – Despite the sanctions of shipping companies and insurers, the capacity of Old Russian oil tankers has increased by 70% compared to last year.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network from the Financial Times, according to the published report of the Kyiv School of Economics, the volume of Russian oil transportation by old insured tankers was calculated at 2.4 million barrels per day in June of last year. This is despite the fact that after a year, this figure has increased to 4.1 million barrels.
Financial Times wrote in this connection: The capacity of Russian oil tankers has increased while the United States, Canada, Japan and European countries have forced the insurance and global shipping companies to suppress and embargo Russian oil tankers under the pretext of the Ukraine war. In addition, Western countries have added the names of ships and private companies related to the “Shadow Fleet” to their anti-Russian sanctions list.

“Shadow Fleet” uses measures to circumvent Western sanctions against Russian oil. Russia believes that Western pressure to limit its oil exports is going nowhere, and in the past year the number of tankers carrying cargo insured by the West has increased.
The report of the Kyiv School of Economics added: The embargo on oil tankers has been effective to some extent, but the special campaigns to curb Russia’s “shadow fleet” have been very limited.
Previously, there have been reports related to the occurrence of accidents in the seas and the pollution of sea water. Such incidents can cause heavy damages.
Statistics show that in June 2024, about 70% of Russian oil was transported by these tankers, whose assembly cost Russia about 10 billion dollars.
The assembly of these tankers allowed Russia to bypass the sanctions and cut ties with the countries that sought to impose sanctions packages.
