Florida restricts the access of people under the age of 16 to cyberspace.
According to Reuters, Florida’s state Congress, which is controlled by Republicans, has passed a law aimed at protecting young people from mental health threats, restricting the access of people under the age of 16 to cyberspace.
The bill, which will be sent to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ office for signature, would require social media platforms to disable accounts for people under the age of 16 and use third-party authentication systems to monitor minors.
According to DeSantis, cyberspace is harmful to children, but parents can play a supervisory role. The former candidate for the 2024 US presidential election, who withdrew in favor of Donald Trump, the former president of this country, believes that this law may lower the level of parental supervision.
The proposed bill has been approved in the Florida House of Representatives with 108 votes in favor (against 7 votes against).
