Food security of over a billion Indians at risk

PNN – The terrorist war waged by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran has jeopardized India’s food security.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; New Delhi issued an emergency tender for 2.5 million tons of urea due to disruptions in urea supply caused by the war against Iran.

The US-Israeli war on Iran is threatening India’s food security, Indian media reported. With the Strait of Hormuz severely disrupted, India, the world’s largest importer of urea, has issued an emergency tender to buy 2.5 million tonnes of the vital fertiliser.

Urea is the backbone of India’s agriculture and is essential for growing rice, maize and soybeans in the cropping season that begins in June.

West Asia accounts for almost half of India’s fertilizer imports, and Oman is India’s largest supplier of urea. Any delays or shortages could directly affect food production for 1.4 billion people. The Indian government is in a race against time, as domestic production also depends on imported natural gas, which is now in short supply due to the conflict.
