PNN – Foreign Policy magazine, referring to the US president’s constant shifting of positions, particularly on Ukraine, wrote that “Washington cannot be trusted.”
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Foreign Policy begins its report as follows: US President Donald Trump held a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on June 25 during the NATO summit in The Hague. The meeting seemed to go well.
Zelensky said after the meeting that he had asked for US help to defend his country against heavy Russian air strikes. He said at the time that Ukraine was ready to buy the equipment and support American arms manufacturers.
Trump also made it clear that they want to have anti-missile missiles and the Patriot system, and we intend to see if we can provide some.

The Pentagon shocked Kiev and its allies on July 1 by announcing a halt to all shipments of Patriot missiles, along with Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, artillery shells, and Sparrow air-to-air missiles, to Ukraine. Many of these weapons had already been moved to a warehouse in Poland, awaiting transfer to Ukraine. After all, “President Trump promised!”
However, Trump did not break his habit and, changing his position, announced on July 7 that some defensive weapons would still be sent to Ukraine. Can Ukraine trust him? Trump reportedly wasn’t informed of the Pentagon’s decision to withhold aid to Ukraine. So, who exactly is driving Washington’s policy on the Russia-Ukraine war?
Washington’s latest arms freeze comes at a critical time. Russia has been steadily escalating its airstrikes on Ukrainian cities since January. Shortly after Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone on July 4, Moscow launched its largest airstrike against Ukraine since the start of the war, launching hundreds of drones and missiles into Ukrainian cities in a massive wave that lasted nearly eight years. Trump claimed to be “very disappointed” with Putin and that the Russian president’s actions may have contributed to his change of heart. However, it is still unclear what shipments will be sent and when they will begin. By then, more people will be killed as a result of the arms embargo on Ukraine!
Washington’s repeated halts to aid to Ukraine belittle all the efforts Kiev has made to appease Trump. Under intense pressure from the White House, Kiev signed an agreement under which the United States has access to and extensive exploitation of Ukraine’s rare mineral reserves. Kiev, under pressure from Russian attacks, was also forced to agree to a ceasefire agreement proposed by Washington. However, neither helped.
The Pentagon’s official reason for halting arms shipments to Ukraine was concerns about Washington’s weapons stockpiles, a line that Richard Blumenthal, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, described as “sophisticated and perhaps even hypocritical.” An NBC News report confirmed his statements, stating that, according to internal Pentagon reviews, providing weapons to Ukraine would not jeopardize US military readiness.
Three Democratic senators in the US Congress announced on July 3 an investigation into the reasons behind the Trump administration’s apparent reluctance to impose new sanctions on Moscow. Trump remains reluctant to increase pressure on the Russians.
