Foreign Policy: US operation against Yemeni forces has failed

PNN – Foreign Policy magazine, referring to the fruitless attacks by the US Navy on the positions of Yemeni Ansarullah forces, wrote: Five weeks after the Donald Trump administration escalated its attacks on the Houthis, several major problems have emerged that show the US president is having difficulty translating his rhetoric into real results.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the article of this American publication states: The operation has so far failed to achieve one of its two stated goals: restoring freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and re-establishing deterrence.

Shipping through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal remains low despite attacks that have cost the US more than $1 billion. Militants have also escalated their attacks on Israel and US warships in the region, warning of Trump’s entry into the Yemeni “quagmire.”

On the other hand, there is a lack of transparency about this operation, which is considered the largest US military action of Trump’s second term. The Department of Defense has not held briefings on the ongoing war, and the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has only posted exciting videos of fighter jets taking off from aircraft carriers on social media.

More worrisome is the heavy use of precision-guided munitions in the round-the-clock strikes by two US aircraft carrier strike groups. Many defense experts believe that these limited munitions would be better used in any future conflict with China. This is especially important in the case of the limited stock of air-launched missiles that would be vital in a potential conflict with Taiwan.

The United States has fought for freedom of navigation for centuries, in waters not far from the current conflict. What is difficult to understand now is why Washington would waste so much money opening a route that doesn’t need to be opened, when there are more pressing challenges.
