Former NATO commander: Ukrainians have a terrible winter ahead.
In an interview on Friday, former NATO commander General Jean-Paul Palomaros painted a grim picture of Ukraine’s prospects for war with Russia over the next few months, saying Kyiv and its Western backers must be careful not to lose more ground.

“Ukrainians can at best defend their current positions” are the statements made by General Jean-Paul Palomeros, the former commander of NATO, in an interview with Franceinfo about the outlook for the coming months of the war in Ukraine.

The former chief of staff of the French Air Force said, “Ukrainians are facing a terrible winter.” We should not deceive ourselves and expect more from maintaining our current positions.

Earlier this month, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg acknowledged the failure of Ukraine’s counter-attacks and said, “We must be prepared for bad news and stay by Ukraine’s side in good and bad times.”

Statements by Stoltenberg and other Western officials, including French President Emmanuel Macron, about the need to support Ukraine to prevent Russia’s victory, while the latest round of European aid to Ukraine, equivalent to $54 billion, was announced in early December (this month) at the EU summit in Brussels was not approved due to the opposition of the Hungarian Prime Minister. Meanwhile, the proposal of US$60 billion aid to Kyiv has stalled in the US Congress and a decision on it has been postponed until 2024.

This retired French general said that currently the level of aid from Ukraine is not enough and “we must unite our words and actions”.
