Former Pakistani diplomat: US, West’s excuses against Iran futile.
In an exclusive interview with an IRNA correspondent in Islamabad on Saturday, a spokesperson addressed the failure to ratify a resolution proposed by Russia and China that aimed to prevent the reimposition of UN sanctions against Iran in the Security Council. They stated, “The fundamental aspect of the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA) was that anti-Iranian sanctions would remain suspended in exchange for Iran’s cooperation in the nuclear field. However, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the agreement. The International Atomic Energy Agency continued its inspections and repeatedly confirmed that Iran does not pursue any military objectives in its nuclear programs.”
The spokesperson further expressed, “I believe that anti-Iranian sanctions should remain suspended, and the other parties should pursue diplomacy instead of resorting to bullying and pressure. Unfortunately, we see that European nations have lost their independence and are under pressure from the United States.”
Ms. Hashemi, who served as Pakistan’s ambassador to the European Union from 2014 to 2019, remarked, “You cannot force Iran to surrender through pressure and other tactics. They are a civilized nation and will not accept coercion or force. Therefore, the path of diplomacy with Iran must continue.”
She emphasized, “Unfortunately, the United States seeks to create enemies and is primarily focused on advancing its own interests, particularly protecting Israel’s interests. They understand that a strong and developed Iran is not in their favor; however, a prosperous Iran benefits the region and all surrounding countries, especially Pakistan.”
The former Pakistani ambassador to China from 2019 to mid-2020 added, “I believe that the Western parties will continue to exert pressure and create excuses regarding the Iranian nuclear issue, which ultimately will lead nowhere.”
