Former US official: Netanyahu never wanted Hamas to agree.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did everything he could to destroy Hamas’s chances of agreement, from changes to the text to fiery comments in Hebrew.
Hamas didn’t exactly “agree,” the former US State Department spokesman in the Joe Biden administration continued. However, Donald Trump’s obsessive desire to receive the Nobel Peace Prize may, in a strange way, put us in the right place. This war must end, Palestinian civilians must be able to live in peace, and the hostages must return home.
According to IRNA, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) responded to Trump’s ceasefire plan by agreeing to a complete cessation of hostilities, a prisoner exchange, and the independent administration of Gaza, and called for the future of Gaza to be considered within the framework of Palestinian national interests.
US President Donald Trump said on Friday evening local time, “Based on the statement that Hamas just released, I believe they are ready for a lasting peace. “Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza so that we can release the hostages quickly and safely! Right now, it is very dangerous to do so. We are currently discussing the details that need to be worked out. This is not just about Gaza, but about the peace that we have long sought in the Middle East.”
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed Hamas’ conditional response to US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza, calling it encouraging.
