Fourteen days have passed since the closure of Gaza crossings; the crisis escalates and basic services collapse

PNN – The continued closure of Gaza’s crossings by the Israeli regime, which has now been in place for 14 days, has made conditions for its residents increasingly difficult.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed news website reported on the difficult situation in Gaza due to the continued closure of the crossings by the Zionist regime, and wrote: The Israeli occupation continues to close the crossings into Gaza and prevent the entry of aid and fuel, which has made the situation difficult for residents, and basic goods are not available, especially during the month of Ramadan.

The media added: Fourteen days have passed since the closure of the Karm Abu Salem crossing in southern Gaza, and aid has been cut off, and municipalities and service centers have stopped operating or collapsed.

Alaa al-Din al-Attar, mayor of Beit Lahia in northern Gaza, said: The occupation’s continued closure of crossings has had devastating consequences for municipalities in providing basic services. It is not possible to provide drinking water due to the lack of fuel to operate the equipment, which puts the lives of residents at risk.

He emphasized: The fuel supply stoppage has disrupted garbage collection and caused garbage to pile up.

On the other hand, Rafah Mayor Ahmed Al-Sufi also said: The rubble removal operation has been completely stopped.

He also warned about the failure of drinking water supply equipment due to lack of fuel and the continued closure of crossings by the occupiers, which he said would lead to residents being left without water and the spread of infectious diseases.

Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed continued its report: The closure of crossings and the lack of fuel have also affected the activities of bakeries, with Abdul Nasser Al-Ajrami, head of the Gaza Bakers Union, saying that five major bakeries have been out of business in recent days due to running out of fuel.

He also warned that other bakeries in Gaza would cease operations within the next 10 days.

On the other hand, Maher Shamiya, an official from the Gaza Health Ministry, said: The fuel and electricity crisis will intensify due to the closure of the crossings, and the operation of hospitals and medical centers will require 30 generators.

He added: Generators located in hospitals need repair and maintenance, especially since they have been used a lot and were damaged during the war.

In continuation of the Zionist regime’s repressive policies against the Palestinian people, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the regime issued an order to completely cut off humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and close all crossings in the region; this action, which was taken in line with the intensification of the siege of Gaza, led to an even greater deterioration of the humanitarian crisis in the region.
