France: US security strategy reveals its ideology.

“The new US national security strategy document is a very brutal clarification of the ideological position of the United States,” French Armed Forces Minister Alice Ruffo told lawmakers in the country’s National Assembly.

“We live in a world of carnivores. Europe is not an island and is only respected when it knows how to respect itself,” she added.

Ruffo, who met with US Defense Department and national security officials in Washington in recent days, said she knew the document would spark “debates” within the US administration, particularly on Russia.

Ruffo, who was previously deputy national security adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron, made the strongest public statement by French officials on the US national security strategy document.

The document, released on Friday, is highly critical of Europe, warning that the continent is facing “civilizational decline” and that the US must support “resistance” within Europe.

The strategy also stated that the United States would support opponents of EU-led values, including on immigration.

The US National Security Strategy, without calling Russia an enemy, emphasizes a rapid end to hostilities in Ukraine as a US interest. The goal of such a peace agreement is described as restoring strategic stability with Russia and ensuring Ukraine’s survival as a stable state.

The document criticizes Europe’s approach to Russia, calling it a sign of a “lack of strategic self-confidence” on the continent. While the document does not mention Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine or Moscow’s policies, it claims that only the United States can balance Europe and Russia and create a level of strategic stability in Eurasia.

In addition, the new US National Security Strategy calls for “reorienting our global military presence to address immediate threats in our hemisphere and moving away from arenas whose relative importance to US national security has declined in recent decades or years.”
