Further Iran-US mediation is probable.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel Al-Maskarri added in an interview with IRNA International Correspondent on Wednesday: The Foreign Ministries of Oman and Iran are always in contact with each other, and whenever an opportunity arises, indirect talks between Tehran and Washington will continue with Muscat’s mediation.
He stressed that his country believes in the principle of dialogue and establishing security in the region.
Al-Maskarri emphasized: Iran-Oman relations are long-standing and not only in the interest of both parties, but also in the interest of the entire region.
The head of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Regional Dialogue Department at the Omani Foreign Ministry said: Oman does not imitate others in its relations, and what is suitable for another country may not be suitable for Muscat, so in foreign relations, it first considers its own interests, then the interests of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and finally the interests of the region.
On Tuesday, he stated at a ceremony held at the National Museum of Oman to mark the National Day: “Our foreign policy is based on the principle of ‘positive neutrality’ and extending a hand of friendship to countries in the region and the world.” Al-Maskri emphasized: “Oman’s policy is transparent and focused on dialogue rather than confrontation, an issue that has caused us problems in some cases.” The head of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Regional Dialogue Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman continued: “Due to the diplomacy of dialogue and the principle of positive neutrality, we have been able to play a mediating role in many disputes between different countries.” This year, November 20 (November 11) coincides with the 281st anniversary of the establishment of the government of Ahmed bin Saeed Busaidi in Oman. On this occasion, a ceremony will be held in the country for a week from November 20. Some political officials and media personnel in Oman and a group of media people from different countries, including Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, and Algeria, are participating in the ceremony.
