G7 meeting; The shaky position of the leaders and the prediction of a summit without important achievements

PNN – The New York Times newspaper wrote today in a report on the pretext of the beginning of the three-day summit of the leaders of the G7 member states that the political life of each and every leader present is in danger and it does not seem that the summit of this group, which is facing challenges from Russia’s war against Ukraine to economic competition with China, be accompanied by important achievements.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, it is stated in this report: British Prime Minister Rishi Sonak will face an election in three weeks, in which his conservative party is expected to be removed from power. French President Emmanuel Macron announced early parliamentary elections after his party suffered a heavy defeat from the far-right in the European Parliament elections.

German Chancellor Olaf Schultz and his Social Democratic Party also suffered a heavy defeat in the said election, and meanwhile, Joe Biden is in conflict with his predecessor, Donald Trump. Even Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is facing growing unrest in his Liberal Democratic Party and could be ousted this fall.

Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada, is facing an unhappy public opinion after more than eight years in office.

Concerns about the role of the G7 are nothing new: the seven countries account for a shrinking share of the world’s gross domestic product, and the absence of leaders China and Russia is sorely felt.

Giorgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy, understanding the changes in the world, has also invited a number of heads of non-Western countries to Italy: Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey and Mohammed bin Zayed, President of the United Arab Emirates, Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine and Pope Francis.

Some of these figures also have their own concerns. Although Modi was recently elected for a third term, his party’s parliamentary majority has been lost and Erdogan has also lost in local elections.

The victorious face of this group may be Meloni. Although he also came to power at the head of a far-right party, he is someone that moderate European leaders can work with.
