Benny Gantz, who is also the head of the opposition “Government Camp” party, in response to Netanyahu’s appointment of the new head of the Shin Bet, added: The appointment of a new head of the Shin Bet will not be possible unless the Supreme Court of Israel issues a ruling.
Avigdor Lieberman, the head of the “Israel Our Home” party, also reacted to Netanyahu’s decision to appoint Elie Shervit as the new head of the Shin Bet, saying: “Sharbit is an excellent commander, but he has no intelligence record or qualifications. The considerations taken into account for the appointment of Sharbit as head of the Shin Bet, especially after he left military service for many years, have raised many questions.
Lieberman also added: The fact-finding committee on the “submarine” case shows that Netanyahu has endangered Israel’s security.
Israeli Channel 12 TV also reported that Netanyahu is under pressure from the Likud party due to the appointment of the new Shin Bet chief, and the party’s assessments indicate that the appointment of Eli Sharbit as the new Shin Bet chief may not be implemented.
