Now that we are on the threshold of the day of Ashura and the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his companions, looking at the war in Gaza and the events surrounding it, which has been going on for about 9 months, leads us to the desert of Karbala and Ashura in the year 61 Hijri. In other words, it seems that the entire developments in Gaza, from the Al-Aqsa storm operation by Hamas and the all-out attacks of the Zionist regime and the crimes of this regime against the people of Gaza, can be analyzed from the perspective of representing the events of Karbala in 2023 AD.

Ashura is the 10th day of the month of Muharram and in Islamic culture, it is a reminder of the Muharram event of 61 AH when Imam Hussain (AS) and a group of his companions were martyred in the uprising against Yazid bin Muawiyah. For the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) on the day of Ashura, broad and wide-ranging cultural, social, and political dimensions have been listed. In the cultural aspect of this event, more emphasis is placed on the issue of authenticity and the messages of the Ashura discourse. The event of Ashura confronts the audience with the confrontation of the two opposing aspects of “oppression and justice”, “oppressor and oppressor”, “right and wrong”, etc., whose distinctive feature is its ability to be interpreted. In this way, Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his companions are mentioned as the oppressed, and Yazid and his soldiers are mentioned as the oppressors, Ashura is also the arena of confrontation between the two discourses, in which the oppressed are martyred by the oppressor. Now, to reach from Ashura to Gaza and the crimes of the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people, we must start representing. Representation is the linguistic construction of reality. Representation is not the reflection and reflection of the meaning of phenomena in the outside world, but the production and construction of meaning based on conceptual and discourse frameworks.

A large part of the effectiveness of Hamas forces in hitting the Zionist regime and defending against its attacks in the Gaza war is due to the element of martyrdom among the forces of this group. This element has been the focus of decision-making circles in the West for years.
