Gaza awaits $50-80 billion/Reconstruction will take 16-80 years.
In light of the first phase of the ceasefire in Gaza, the Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed news website published a report on Friday, examining the extent of the damage caused by the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and the assessments made regarding the cost and time required to rebuild the area. It wrote: With the announcement of the agreement on the first phase of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, numerous assessments have been made regarding the extent of the damage to the infrastructure and residential areas in the Gaza Strip, the time required for their reconstruction, and the parties participating in this reconstruction.
New international estimates indicate that the cost required to rebuild the Gaza Strip varies between $50 billion and $80 billion. US President Donald Trump has called on countries in the region to finance the reconstruction process under Washington’s supervision, while the Arab League and Egypt are developing a comprehensive reconstruction plan that enjoys international and European support.
On April 2, 2024, the World Bank, the United Nations, and the European Union published their first official assessment report on the damage caused to the Gaza Strip.
According to the report, the Gaza Strip’s housing sector has suffered more than 70 percent of the total damage, while the remaining sectors, including education, water and sanitation, and industry, have sustained a lesser percentage of damage.
