Gaza medical sector still faces challenges, says relief director.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Mohammed Abu Afesh, the director of the Gaza Medical Relief Organization, said: “We had hoped that the basic needs of the medical sector would enter the Gaza Strip after the ceasefire, but the problems continue. Medical services are still facing problems due to the lack of facilities.”
He emphasized: “The establishment of mobile clinics and field hospitals is an urgent need for the people of Gaza. We have great hope that the necessary equipment will be provided and the situation in the Gaza Strip will improve.”
Abu Afesh added: “Clear policies must be established to refresh and improve the situation of the people of Gaza, especially children.”
Earlier, the spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), referring to the critical situation in the northern Gaza Strip and the Zionist regime’s move to prevent the opening of the crossings in this area, announced: “Without the opening of the “Eriz” and “Zikim” crossings, relief and relief aid can’t enter the northern Gaza Strip.”
“Without the opening of the Zikim and Erez crossings, it is not possible to provide aid to a city where about one million Palestinians live,” said Adnan Abu Hasna.
He added that the transfer of aid to the north of the Strip and Gaza City remains very limited, and without the opening of the northern crossings, the needs of the residents of those areas cannot be met.
The spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) called for the opening of all five land crossings between the 1948 occupied territories and the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that it should not be limited to the Karm Abu Salem crossing alone to ensure the flow of humanitarian aid in the required volume and speed.
He announced that the amount of aid that has entered the Gaza Strip in recent days has increased compared to before the ceasefire.
According to IRNA, the Zionist regime, with the support of the United States and Europe, has committed a widespread genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023 which includes killing, imposing starvation, destroying buildings and infrastructure, and arbitrarily and widely detaining the residents of the Strip, and has continued regardless of international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop it.
This genocide has left more than 238,000 Palestinians martyred and injured, most of whom are children and women. More than 11,000 people have also gone missing in this crime. In addition, hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced, and in addition to the widespread destruction and erasure of most of the cities and areas of the Gaza Strip from the map, famine has claimed the lives of many residents of the Strip, most of whom are children.
