PNN – Two months have passed since the beginning of the Gaza war, China continues its efforts to end the war and create real peace, so that Beijing, in its last attempt from the UN podium, supported the members of the Security Council to take the right decision to save lives.
While 2 months have passed since the Israeli-Palestinian war, many Western countries have remained silent about Israel’s crimes in Gaza despite the strong protests of their citizens. China is one of the countries that continues its efforts for the end of the war and real peace. So that Beijing, in its last attempt from the UN platform, demanded the support of the members of the Security Council to take the right decision to save the lives of the people of Gaza.
Since the beginning of the Palestinian-Israeli war, China has demanded three issues, including “immediate action to achieve a ceasefire”, “protecting civilian lives” and “preventing greater human tragedies”, which it included in the recent resolution.
Beijing believes that while the conflict in Gaza has intensified and killed more than 17,000 innocent civilians and created a dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, any stance against peace is unjustified and irresponsible. In this context, Beijing, while participating in the draft resolution proposed by the United Arab Emirates, which was voted on last Friday, supported this draft and called for peace.
Contrary to Beijing’s view, in the midst of global calls for peace, the US put itself in front of the international community by vetoing the draft resolution for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. At the meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Friday, the United States, as the only opponent of the resolution proposed by the United Arab Emirates, vetoed this resolution.
China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, following the United States’ veto of the Security Council resolution on Friday, said: ignoring the war in Gaza is contradictory to the claim of paying attention to human lives and their humanitarian needs in Gaza.
He added: While (America) is closing its eyes to the continuation of the war, it is hypocritical to talk about the protection of women and children and human rights. All this brings us back to the double standard.

This Chinese diplomat also asked Israel to pay attention to the request of the international community and stop the “collective punishment of the people of Gaza”.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi went even further, calling Israel’s bombing of Gaza civilians actions that “exceeded the scope of self-defense.” Moreover, unlike the US, Beijing has avoided condemning Hamas.
China’s support for Palestine has historical roots. China was one of the first countries to recognize the Palestinian Authority and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and has always supported the approach of the Palestinian side to gain membership in the United Nations. In 2012, this country also voted in favor of Palestine’s inclusion in the United Nations.
China’s focus on establishing favorable relations with developed actors caused Beijing to start diplomatic relations with the Israeli regime in 1992. Currently, China is Israel’s third largest trading partner, and bilateral trade between them reached 23 billion dollars last year (2022).
In the past years, China has always supported the creation of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the comments of the Chinese government in the last two weeks are a confirmation of this trend.
In his recent meeting with his counterparts in the BRICS group, Chinese President Xi Jinping also said that efforts should be made to promote justice and peace in the Gaza Strip, and at the same time, he asked the international community to take practical measures to prevent the spread of the conflict to West Asia.
From the point of view of the leader of China and many officials of this country, the issue of Palestine is a fundamental and central issue in the Middle East, and it is in the interest of the international community to find a favorable solution for the peaceful coexistence of the parties.
China’s peaceful efforts to end the war in Gaza show that Beijing always believes in the principle of “creating a human society with a common destiny” and wants the world to move in this framework. On the other hand, the president of this country, as a world leader, seeks to play Beijing’s international role in global equations.
Finally, it is expected that China, which has recently assumed the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, will take more and more effective measures to prevent the Zionists’ crimes against the people of Gaza. The United States must also assume its duty and join the other members of the Security Council so that all efforts towards the common goal of calming the conflict in Gaza in order to create hope for the survival of the Palestinian people and the hope for peace in the Middle East will not bear fruit.
