PNN – One of the senior commanders of the German army admitted that the severe sanctions imposed by the West against Russia failed in their goal of bringing the Russian army to its knees.
According to the International group of Pakistan News Network, Christian Freuding, the head of the Ukraine situation center in the German army and the senior assistant of Boris Pistorius, the German defense minister, admitted in an interview that the West underestimated the stability of the Russian army and the ability of the country’s defense sector to adapt to severe sanctions.
In an interview with the German publication “Suddeutsche Zeitung”, this high-ranking commander of the Ukrainian army said: “At the beginning, when we imposed sanctions, we had no idea of the stability of the Russians as we understand them today.”
Freuding noted: “We also didn’t think they would succeed in the trends that we are now clearly observing, despite the heavy sanctions regime that was imposed: trends that include strengthening their military-industrial complex, expanding it, and increasing its production capacity.”
This German general pointed out: “Russia still has the ability to recruit military personnel.” And of course we see huge investments in their armaments industry; Investments that lead to expanding and increasing the capacity of this sector, especially in the area of ammunition production.

“In retrospect, the hopes that Kiev and its allies had for their stalled summer counteroffensive were certainly exaggerated,” Freuding said. We can see similar exaggerations in Washington and other capitals of NATO members in order to justify the 200 billion dollars in arms aid and other aid they send to Kiev.
The German general also claimed that the reason for the catastrophic failure of Ukraine’s summer counter-attack was the lack of air support and anti-aircraft systems, and the Russian attacks have severely pressured Ukraine’s anti-aircraft systems.
He continued: “In addition, Ukraine attacked Russian positions while these positions were heavily prepared and were mined and fortified in a way that probably has never happened before.” This cost Ukraine time, and Ukrainian soldiers suffered high casualties as they were forced to clear mines manually in the dark of night.”
However, the German general claimed that it is necessary to continue supporting the operations of the Ukrainian army against Russia.
He added that the German army learned lessons from the war in Ukraine, which include realizing the importance of drone warfare in modern conflicts. He said: “We have now created a drone task force. This action will enable us to quickly introduce various types of drones and drone defense systems to our forces so that we can start gaining training and experience.”
However, this approach of the German government has imposed economic costs on the country, including periods of stagnation and the loss of hundreds of large industrial companies that left German soil.
