PNN – The German intelligence agency claims that Russia spent around $300 billion on the military last year, a 95% increase compared to 2023.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing the website of Deutsche Welle, the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) has claimed that Russia’s military spending in recent years has been 66% higher than the amount announced in the country’s defense budget.
This is partly because Russia’s interpretation of defense spending differs significantly from NATO’s definition, the intelligence agency says.
According to the report, for example, Defense Ministry construction projects, Russian military IT projects, and payments to family members of those who participated in the war with Ukraine are not included in the defense budget, but are included in other parts of the state budget.
Furthermore, the German intelligence service claims that information on military spending published by official Russian organizations is often distorted and requires further analysis.
According to the intelligence agency, Russian federal budget spending on military items from January to September 2025 reached a record high of $296 billion.
According to this assessment, Russia’s military budget has increased by 95% compared to 2023 and by 295% compared to 2021.
