Germany withdraws from legal support for the Zionist regime in The Hague Court

The Hague

PNN – According to international sources, the German government has withdrawn from its previous commitment to support the Zionist regime at the International Court of Justice (The Hague) in a case filed by South Africa regarding genocide in Gaza.

This change in position comes after Berlin announced in January 2024, immediately after South Africa filed a complaint that it would intervene in the court in favor of the Israeli regime, and at that time called the genocide accusations against the regime “baseless.”

According to the Middle East Monitor website, a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry confirmed that Berlin will not intervene in the ongoing case in favor of the Israeli regime in The Hague. The decision is directly related to Germany’s own legal problems in the court. Berlin is currently accused of violating the Genocide Convention in a separate case filed by Nicaragua due to its political, military and financial support for the Israeli regime’s crimes in Gaza.

The case has exposed Germany to increasing scrutiny over its arms exports to Israel and the suspension of funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Although the Hague court refused to issue emergency orders against Germany in 2024, it allowed Nicaragua’s complaint to continue.

Although German officials have officially rejected the accusation of genocide against the Zionist regime and deny the accusations made against their country in the Nicaragua case, analysts view Berlin’s recent decision not to officially join the pro-Israel team as an attempt to reduce the growing legal and political pressure resulting from complicity in the crimes in Gaza.

The development comes as more countries join the ranks of plaintiffs in the South African case. According to the report, the Netherlands and Iceland have also joined the growing list of states seeking to participate in the historic case against the Zionist regime by registering their declaration of intervention on March 11.
