Global Times: America’s fragile relationship with China may lead to war

PNN – The Chinese media Global Times warned Washington on Sunday that the United States is only one wrong step away from starting a war with China.

According to Pakistan News Network, the Chinese newspaper “Global Times” warned in an editorial on Sunday that the fragile relations between the United States and Beijing could lead to war between the two countries.

“A minor incident could spark a war or even an uncontrollable danger between China and the United States, the two superpowers,” the newspaper’s editorial said.

This warning was published more than a month after US President Joe Biden met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in San Francisco in November. The meeting was seen as a crucial step to restore normal relations between the United States and China and prevent the escalation of rivalry between the two countries.

The Global Times announced last Thursday’s video meeting between senior Chinese and American military officials as “important” and wrote that the meeting was substantive and an important step in improving relations between the two military powers, but the United States is only one wrong step away from starting a war.

The issue of Taiwan and US human rights accusations, as well as Washington’s fear of jeopardizing its interests due to Beijing’s trade and technology policies, have been among the reasons for increasing tensions between the two countries. In addition, in the summer of this year, it was reported that the two countries have cut off communication between their armed forces.

“Wang Wenbin,” the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, asked the United States to stop military aid to Taiwan, saying that Washington should support the peaceful reunification of the island with the Chinese mainland.

The spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry added, “The United States must show its position that it does not support the secession of Taiwan with decisive measures, stop arming this island and support its peaceful reunification with China.”

China is also strongly against the US military presence in the region and has repeatedly warned that this country’s military presence in the region will lead to miscalculations.

The Global Times wrote that there is a difference in the perception of the two sides, which especially requires Washington to fully understand the important points emphasized by Beijing.
