Global Times: Japan is on the way to reviving militarism

PNN – The Global Times newspaper quoted military analysts as saying: The meeting of top Japanese officials with their American, Indian and Australian counterparts is mostly focused on military cooperation, reflecting Tokyo’s plan to expand its military presence overseas and sell Japanese weapons to foreign countries.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from the Global Times publication, Chinese military analysts stated regarding the meeting of senior Japanese officials with their American, Indian and Australian counterparts: By strengthening defense and military cooperation with members of the quadripartite security system, Tokyo is trying to break free from post-World War II military restrictions and take advantage of the US’s “Indo-Pacific” strategic plan, which aims to contain China.

According to the NHK television channel, Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa along with Japanese Defense Minister Minuro Kihara are scheduled to travel to New Delhi on August 20 to discuss ways to implement the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategic Plan”.

This Japanese media added: bilateral military exercises and the sale of Japanese defense equipment to India may also be discussed in this meeting.

NHK also continued: The meeting of Japanese and Australian officials will probably be held early next month in order to sign an agreement to facilitate bilateral military exercises and expand military cooperation between Tokyo and Canberra.

According to the report of this Japanese media, Tokyo is willing to expand its relations with India and Australia in the shadow of China’s growing influence in the “Indo-Pacific” region.

A Chinese military expert who wished to remain anonymous said: Japan’s 2+2 meeting with the United States, India and Australia is more focused on military cooperation, which shows Tokyo’s plan to expand its military presence abroad and sell Japanese weapons to foreign countries.

Stating that China’s military blockade creates serious security concerns, he added: These actions will lead to disruption of strategic balance, increase in tension and negative effects on the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region.
