Government targets Palestine backers with mask ban aimed at stifling dissent.

Government targets Palestine backers with mask ban aimed at stifling dissent.

According to Rashatodi, the Democratic Governor of New York State, Cathy Hukel, says that in order to fight against what she calls anti-Semitism, she has proposed a ban on the use of masks throughout the state’s subways; A proposal that seems to be related to the demonstrations of supporters of Palestine, despite Hukel’s claim.

New York had banned the use of masks in public before the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the mentioned law was canceled in 2020 and due to the outbreak of Corona and the use of sanitary masks was made mandatory for all people who used this transportation system.

This law returned to its first state in September 2022. Hukel said in an interview with reporters that he is negotiating with the legislators about the details of the bill banning the wearing of masks, and according to him, this policy should clearly define the cases of using this cover for medical, cultural, and religious reasons.

He said: We will not tolerate people who use masks to hide their criminal or threatening behavior. We are looking for a solution.

Eric Adams, the mayor of New York, also talked about the re-imposition of some bans related to the use of masks and claimed that people should not use masks in protests!

Hukel claimed that he decided to make this proposal after learning that a masked group entered a subway car and scared people and chanted slogans in support of Hitler and extermination of Jews. Of course, the proposal appears to be related to Monday’s pro-Palestinian protests around New York and the storming of a subway station with a Palestinian flag. Critics of Hukel’s proposal say it is an attempt to suppress protests where people want to remain anonymous to avoid legal or professional repercussions.
