Guterres: Israel must stop flights over Lebanon

PNN – The United Nations Secretary-General, without condemning the ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon, stated that Israel must halt flights over Lebanese territory.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Al Jazeera, Antonio Guterres issued a statement on Wednesday, calling on all parties to protect civilians and create conditions for dialogue that could lead to a permanent ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.

The UN Secretary-General added that the presence of Israeli forces north of the Blue Line and their attacks on Lebanon violate Lebanon’s sovereignty and UN Security Council Resolution 1701. He reiterated his call for Israel to withdraw from areas north of the Blue Line and immediately stop overflights of Lebanese territory.

Guterres further stated that UNIFIL will support the Lebanese army’s efforts to deploy south of the Litani River. He emphasized that any Israeli fire near UNIFIL positions or attacks on peacekeepers is completely unacceptable.
