Guterres: The people of Gaza are fighting for survival.
According to Al Jazeera, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reacted to the current events in the Gaza Strip in a statement and added: “People in northern Gaza are suffering from Israel’s siege and are using any means to survive.”
He emphasized that civilians should be protected and they should be enabled to benefit from humanitarian aid according to international law.
Guterres’ words come after the United Nations warned that it could take 350 years to rebuild Gaza after the Israeli attacks.
A recent report by the United Nations Development Program estimated that there were more than 39 million tons of debris in Gaza last May, according to UN Special Rapporteur Balakrishnan Rajagopal, explaining that the debris included IEDs. Cinders, toxic waste, and asbestos from collapsed buildings and other materials.
