Haaretz: The lack of strategy of the Israelis has worried the Biden administration.
A Zionist newspaper reported that the US government is worried that Tel Aviv does not have a strategy for leaving Gaza.
The Zionist newspaper Ha’aretz reported that senior officials of Joe Biden’s administration are worried that Israel has no strategy for exiting the Gaza war.
According to informed sources, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken asked Benjamin Netanyahu and members of his war cabinet about this during his visit to occupied Palestine, but his impression was that this issue has not been discussed so far in the Tel Aviv authorities’ consultations.
Haaretz writes that the US government is not sure that Israel has a long-term plan for a real future in Gaza.
Blinken and other Biden administration officials feel that Netanyahu is reluctant to discuss the issue, even in security cabinet meetings.
According to Haaretz, one of the plans proposed by the Biden administration is the gradual transfer of control in the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Authority, but some members of Netanyahu’s cabinet, including the finance minister and the regime’s internal security minister, are against this plan.
According to this report, this issue was raised in Sunday’s meeting between Blinken and Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian Authority, but even the Palestinian side had doubts about it.
Mahmoud Abbas told Blinken that the entry of the Palestinian Authority into Gaza would be a difficult step that could make him appear as an ally of Israel. He noted that such an action can only be done if Israel takes important steps in the West Bank in favor of the self-governing organizations.
According to Haaretz, Blinken said: “The autonomous organizations play a very important role in the West Bank and are trying to maintain stability there. “This is very important because no one wants another front to open in the West Bank or anywhere else.”
Blinken tried to get the support of the Arab countries for this plan in a meeting he had with the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE on Sunday in Amman.
Another option that the Biden administration is considering is the creation of a multinational force to operate in Gaza for a short time after the war. This plan does not include the presence of American troops, but the United States supports it. This plan was also discussed during the talks in Amman.
According to Haaretz, one of the problems faced by Blinken is the increasing criticism of Israel from the Arab countries as the war enters its fifth week.
Jordan has been a serious critic of Israel since the beginning of the war. On Sunday, Saudi Arabia issued a very harsh statement in response to the statements of the Israeli minister who said that Tel Aviv might use a nuclear bomb in Gaza.
In another part of this report, Haaretz continued the efforts of the Biden government to advance the plan to normalize relations between the Zionist regime and Saudi Arabia, and wrote that Washington has not yet given up hope for the resumption of contacts in order to realize this agreement.
