Hamas and Islamic Jihad reject Egypt’s ceasefire proposals.
Egyptian sources told Reuters that Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Palestine have rejected Egypt’s proposals for a ceasefire in Gaza and are not willing to give in.
Egyptian sources today (Tuesday) told Reuters that the Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements have not agreed to accept Egypt’s proposals for a ceasefire in Gaza.
According to these sources, Cairo has proposed to two resistance groups that, in exchange for a permanent ceasefire, they withdraw from the management and governance of Gaza and, while holding elections, Hamas is assured that its members will not be prosecuted.
In return, Hamas has not offered any concessions other than the release of several Israeli prisoners.
In line with the Reuters report, the Islamic Jihad in Palestine also said in indirect negotiations with the Zionist regime: “The enemy will not achieve anything in negotiations that it has not achieved on the battlefield.”
According to Reuters, a delegation from the Islamic Jihad entered Cairo yesterday to negotiate with Egyptian authorities for a halt to the attacks.
Ziyad al-Nakhaleh, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad in Palestine, also said last week that the Cairo talks are aimed at “halting the attacks,” “enemy retreat,” and “reconstruction of Gaza.” According to him, the exchange of prisoners will only occur with the equation “everyone for everyone.”
On Sunday, the Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements also emphasized that they would not exchange prisoners without the cessation of aggression and the complete withdrawal of the occupiers from Gaza.
Mohammed al-Hindi, the deputy secretary-general of the Islamic Jihad movement in Palestine, also said that the position of this movement is in complete harmony with the position of Hamas and opposes negotiations about Israeli prisoners before a comprehensive ceasefire and complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
