Hamas: The death of children from the cold in Gaza is a blatant crime.
According to the Shehab News Agency, the spokesman for the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas announced that the continued deaths of children in the Gaza Strip due to extreme cold, including the latest case in the city of Khan Younis, is a blatant crime that occurs as a result of the ongoing siege and the occupation regime’s prevention of reconstruction and provision of proper shelter after the genocidal war against Gaza.
Hazem Qassem emphasized on Thursday that the presence of refugees, especially children, in tents and the lack of proper housing and heating facilities are the main causes of these human tragedies, and despite all the calls for the arrival of temporary houses and the start of reconstruction, the international community has not taken serious action to save the children of Gaza.
Noting that the children of Gaza used to die under bombardment and fire and are now falling victim to the cold, Qassem called for immediate and real action by the international community to prevent the escalation of the crisis and the occurrence of mass deaths.
He also called on the US government and the country’s president to put pressure on the occupying regime to adhere to its ceasefire commitments, the entry of humanitarian aid, real settlement, and the opening of crossings.
This comes while Ahmed Al-Farah, head of the pediatric department at Nasser Medical Complex, previously warned that children in the Gaza Strip would continue to die due to the extreme cold.
He announced that due to the restrictions on the entry of prefabricated huts and houses, as well as the lack of heating equipment, the possibility of continued child mortality is very high.
According to this medical official, many premature children have lost their lives due to their families living in dilapidated tents near the beach.
He emphasized that these conditions are inappropriate even for adults and are completely fatal for children, especially newborns and premature babies.
