Hamas movement confirms direct talks with US

PNN – A Hamas leader confirmed the news about a meeting between the movement and the US representative.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Al-Mayadeen, Taher al-Nunu, one of the leaders of the Hamas movement, emphasized in an interview with Reuters that members of the movement met with Adam Buhler, the US representative for Zionist prisoners of war.

Al Jazeera correspondent Tamer Al-Mishal reported that direct negotiations between the United States and the Hamas movement took place in Doha in four stages.

He added: These negotiations were held at the request of the US government and to release Zionist prisoners with US citizenship. The Hamas movement opposed Washington’s request.

The Palestinian resistance told the American side that these prisoners are ultimately Zionist soldiers and cannot be released without payment.

Two rounds of negotiations were held with a high-ranking Hamas delegation headed by Khalil al-Hayyah to reach a partial agreement on the release of one soldier and the handover of the bodies of four others. Hamas also demanded the release of 250 Palestinian prisoners, and this agreement was eventually reached, but the Israeli regime opposed the names of 50 Palestinian prisoners with life sentences.

Ultimately, the agreement did not come to fruition, and the US government announced that it wanted the unconditional release of Zionist prisoners with American citizenship, an issue that Hamas opposed.
