Harris raised $200 million in first week of White House campaign.
According to Reuters, the campaign office of Kamala Harris, Vice President Joe Biden, announced that within a week after Biden withdrew from the Democratic Party nomination, Harris had collected $200 million in campaign contributions.
Rob Flaherty, deputy head of the Harris campaign, wrote in a message on X: “Within a week of starting work, Kamala Harris has raised $200 million, 66% of which has come from new supporters.” 170,000 new volunteers have also registered.
After withdrawing from the Democratic nomination, Biden supported Harris in the election race against Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Earlier this month, the Trump campaign claimed to have raised $331 million in the second quarter of the year, surpassing the $264 million raised by the Biden campaign and its Democratic allies in the same period. Trump’s campaign had $284.9 million in cash at the end of June, and the Democratic Party had $240 million in the same period.
Harris, who has the support of a majority of the delegates (delegates) of the Democratic National Convention, is likely to be formally announced next month as the party’s candidate for the November 5th election.
Amidst criticism of his health condition and following verbal and behavioral gaffes, as well as his poor performance in the first debate with Trump held in late June, Biden withdrew from the election nomination under pressure from the Democrats. The 81-year-old American president has pledged to remain in office until the end of his presidency (January 20, 2025).
