Has Erdogan’s foreign policy towards the West changed?

The political twists and turns of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey and the leader of the Justice and Development Party, are a topic that has attracted the attention of many domestic and foreign analysts.

Erdogan recently once again pointed out the necessity of Turkey’s desire for extensive cooperation with Shanghai and the BRICS. However, when the Turkish media and political circles interpreted these remarks as a sign of a change in the axis of Ankara’s foreign policy, the president opposed these analyses and openly spoke about the fact that Turkey’s compass is still towards the West.

While some Turkish political analysts attribute this to Erdogan’s own pragmatic personality, another group believes that these approaches were recommended by his advisors and that such a practice will continue in the future.

Another group of analysts says: Erdogan and his party constantly use anti-Western rhetoric to attract the support of nationalists and conservatives. But in practice, they have deep ties to Western institutions, and this duality is not accidental but strategic.
