Al-Farah added: The lack of protein-rich food sources such as meat and chicken has led to an increase in anemia and vitamin B12 deficiency, and these conditions directly affect the physical and mental development of children.
He stated: Health reports indicate that more than 52 children have died due to hunger and malnutrition since the start of the war, while United Nations reports indicate that 2.4 million people in Gaza are at risk of starvation, and this is due to the rapid deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
He emphasized: Infants are the most affected because they are generally dependent on their mothers’ milk, and due to the malnutrition of mothers, the child’s life is at risk; especially since powdered milk is also in short supply and its price in the market is skyrocketing.
The head of the pediatric department at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza called for the immediate intervention of the United Nations and health and humanitarian agencies to save the lives of children in Gaza, saying: The catastrophic situation we are in requires immediate action to save lives before time is lost.
