PNN – The Hebrew-language newspaper Israel Hayom, in an editorial, called for Tel Aviv to set clear “red lines” with respect to the Gaza Strip, noting that the Hamas movement is “smart enough to remain in the shadows” in the current situation.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Israel Hume, Eyal Zaiser, the author of this article, referring to the establishment of the “Gaza Peace Council” in Washington, claimed that Donald Trump is seeking to implement his plan for Gaza through this council.
According to the Hebrew newspaper, Trump sees this council as a replacement for the United Nations, which he sees as an ineffective institution.
According to the report, the council is supposed to oversee the consolidation of the ceasefire, the deployment of a multinational force in Gaza, the formation of a civilian governance structure to replace Hamas, and, first of all, the disarmament of the movement, and then advance the reconstruction process of the region; a process that, according to the Israel Hayom newspaper, is accompanied by financial commitments of several billion dollars only on paper.
The newspaper also doubted that the plan to deploy an international force would come to fruition, emphasizing that “the key to any change remains the disarmament of Hamas.”
According to the publication, although some parties speak of Hamas’ readiness to lay down its arms and hand over control of Gaza, no official from the movement has announced or even denied such a position.
The note continues to state that Hamas spokesmen continue to emphasize the preservation of weapons and the lack of retreat from them, and that the movement continues to rebuild its strength under the shadow of the ceasefire.
The author also claims that the international community, and even the United States, are focused above all on maintaining peace and advancing the reconstruction process, with the illusion that economic and development developments will lead Gaza residents to put pressure on Hamas, something he believes is unlikely to happen.
The newspaper emphasized that the Israeli regime must set red lines for itself and establishes a clear link between the issue of Hamas’s disarmament and any progress in other Gaza-related cases; otherwise, Hamas may remain in power while maintaining its weapons and the gains of the war may be lost in Tel Aviv’s eyes.
