Hebrew site: Ceasefire in Lebanon could lead to the signing of an agreement with Hamas.
According to Al Jazeera, the Hebrew-language website Walla reported, citing security sources, that the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and the Israeli regime could also lead to the signing of a prisoner exchange agreement with the Hamas movement.
The report states that the Israeli war cabinet will hold a meeting this afternoon to approve the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon.
Last night, Al Jazeera Qatar reported: An official at the French presidential palace claimed that talks on a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon had made great progress.
The French official, whose name was not mentioned, expressed hope that the relevant parties would seize this opportunity to implement a ceasefire in Lebanon as soon as possible.
The Reuters news agency also reported, citing four senior Lebanese officials: We expect US President Joe Biden and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to announce a ceasefire in Lebanon within the next 36 hours.
The proposed deal is based on the UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the last major war between Hezbollah and Israel in 2006, is a major element in the ceasefire deal. It requires Hezbollah to pull back about 30 km from the Israeli border, behind the Litani River.
The Israeli military would also withdraw from south Lebanon within 60 days and the Lebanese army would deploy in the border region. Lebanon’s foreign ministry announced earlier that 5,000 troops are at the ready if the ceasefire deal goes through.
A five-county committee, including France and chaired by the US, would be charged with ensuring compliance with the ceasefire.
Hezbollah, seen as a terrorist group by Washington, has endorsed its ally, Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, to negotiate on its behalf.
