Hegemony and trade war: the product of Trump’s 100-day rule in America.
According to Al Jazeera, the Associated Press, in a report written with the participation of 13 analysts and experts in various domestic and foreign, educational, economic, military, political and cultural fields, examined Donald Trump’s performance as president of the United States over the past 100 days and wrote that he is pursuing his behavior in a way that can restore greatness to America. He has reintroduced the policy of former Republican President Ronald Reagan, based on free trade and Western international alliances and has tried to make fundamental changes in the role of government in the lives of Americans and the country’s position in the world.
In this regard, Trump has used Elon Musk, one of the richest men in the world, to eliminate federal sovereignty in the United States and, at the same time, unilaterally announced that he wants to review the post-World War II alliances with Europe. The US president has issued extraordinary orders to change the structure of the foundations of global trade, which has caused instability in the markets and tension in the capitals of various countries. He also ordered the departure of immigrants from the United States and their imprisonment in El Salvador without a judicial trial.
The controversial US president has directly targeted the sectors related to law, media, and public health and culture. In its report, this American news agency discussed the most important areas of Trump’s work program in the last 100 days of his presidency in the White House:
Economy
Trump tried to bring the US economy under his control, and the tariff war was one of the programs he demonstrated in this area. As a result, consumer confidence in the market decreased, stock markets convulsed, and investors lost confidence in Trump’s policies and looked at Trump’s “promised golden era” with concern.
During this time, the US harassed its most important trading allies, Mexico and Canada, with tariffs and imposed heavy tariffs on Chinese goods, which were met with a reaction from the Chinese. The sanctions have escalated tensions between the US and the European Union, and have forced Japan and South Korea to negotiate with the Americans.
Trump claimed that the tariffs could create new jobs in the US and also pay down the US’s $36 trillion public debt. However, the imposition of these tariffs has reduced the income of the average American family by $4,900 a year. This was the figure announced by Yale University in the US, emphasizing that Trump’s propaganda in this regard has not yet been realized.
Trump invested $500 billion in artificial intelligence and asked Hyundai officials to establish a new copper plant in Louisiana. This is while his efforts are likely to lead to an economic recession.
Trump has strengthened the oil and coal sectors by attacking clean and alternative energy and increasing tariffs on copper and other materials that the clean energy sector needs to increase its production.
Elon Musk’s Role in the US Government
Trump had promised to combat waste, corruption, and mismanagement in the US Cabinet, so he chose Musk to take on the position. Musk presented his policy based on the formation of the Ministry of Competence and Efficiency, to be one of the most influential people in the first 100 days of Trump’s rule in America.
Although Republicans have long sought to reduce bureaucratic action in America, the performance of Trump and Musk and the speed and intensity of their actions have shocked even the most senior Republicans in America. Musk’s harsh criticism of Social Security has caused great concern among American retirees. He also made claims about the volume of missing American taxpayer funds that have been lost as a result of corruption. Although Trump and Musk have always been busy praising each other, Musk’s period of presence in the US government was limited.
Immigration
The fight against illegal immigration to the United States was a slogan of Trump’s campaign, and during this time, he announced one of the strictest anti-immigration policies in American history. Trump deployed US troops along the U.S.-Mexico border, expelled migrants from the United States using military aircraft, and prevented migrants from entering the southern border and seeking asylum in the United States.
The United States sent large numbers of migrants to El Salvador and Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, and forced Canadians to register when they entered the United States. Although 46 percent of Americans initially approved of Trump’s actions in this regard, according to polls, more than half of the people believed that Trump had crossed red lines in implementing his policies and deporting immigrants living in the United States illegally. He revived a provision of a law from 1807 that allows the president to detain migrants in the United States with the help of the military.
Suppression of dissent
Since taking office, Trump has sought to punish the US justice system, which his supporters have condemned in the wake of the 2020 election riots. He has harassed several US prosecutors and their lawyers who worked on these cases with his executive orders almost every week.
He has also revoked the security clearances of more than 40 intelligence officials who published reports that contradicted his views in 2020. The Trump administration’s Department of Labor has questioned prosecutors who worked on his Jack Smith team.
