High Commissioner for Human Rights: The rampant expansion of settlements in the West Bank is a war crime

PNN – In a new report, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights announced the shocking growth of settlement construction in the West Bank by the Zionist regime and called it a “war crime”.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from Reuters, the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner announced yesterday that Israeli settlements in the occupied territories have expanded to an unprecedented extent; An issue that threatens to destroy any possibility of creating a Palestinian state.

Felker Turk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said that the expansion of Israeli settlements is a population transfer by Israel and called it a “war crime”.

Joe Biden’s administration, last month after the announcement of Israel’s new settlement plan in the West Bank, considered this action to be against international law.

Turk said in a statement in this regard, which is to be presented to the UN Human Rights Council together with a report at the end of March: Settler violence and violations of settlement laws have reached a shocking level and are a threat to any practical possibility of establishing a Palestinian state.

On the other hand, the delegation appointed by the Zionist regime in the United Nations has announced that this report should also include the death of 36 Israelis in 2023. This panel claims that human rights are universal, but Israeli victims of Palestinian terrorism have been repeatedly ignored by the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

According to the 16-page report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, 24,300 new residential units were registered in the West Bank during the year until the end of October 2023, which is said to be the highest number since 2017.

Increase in violence

According to the UN report, the intensity and level of violence among Zionist settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank has also increased, especially after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.

According to this organization, since the surprise attack by Hamas on October 7, more than 400 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli security forces or settlers.

Israel, which captured the West Bank in the Middle East war in 1967, claims that it has the right to sovereignty over this land based on the Bible. Its military forces, in justifying the increase in violence against Palestinians in this region, say that they are conducting anti-terrorist operations in the West Bank and targeting suspected militants.

The five-month war in Gaza has caused the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which was foreseen in the Oslo Accords from the early 1990s, to come forward. But due to the expansion of settlements, not much progress has been made in this matter.
