Human rights groups criticize the Security Council’s lack of support for the ceasefire in Gaza

PNN – Human rights organizations have criticized the adoption of a resolution in the UN Security Council that does not call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

According to Pakistan News Network, human rights organizations have criticized the adoption of a resolution in the United Nations Security Council that does not call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Responding to the adoption of this resolution, Jason Lee, CEO of Save the Children, said that any action short of calling for a cease-fire will only serve to increase the suffering of killing, disease, and starvation of Gaza’s children.

Oxfam also said that the lack of support for a ceasefire after five days of delaying the Security Council vote was “incomprehensible and completely callous.”

The International Rescue Committee also said in a statement that despite welcoming the adoption of the resolution to increase aid to Gaza, “it is clear that more needs to be done.”

This organization stated in this statement: “The foundation of the actions of the Security Council should be the United Nations Charter and international laws. “These conflicts are a clear threat to international peace and security, and the rights of civilians under international law have been disregarded.”

The United Nations Security Council on Friday passed a resolution calling for an increase in aid to Gaza without calling for a ceasefire. This resolution was approved with 13 positive votes and abstentions from the United States and Russia.

China’s CGTN channel reported moments before the adoption of this resolution that the United States vetoed Russia’s request to include a clause for “immediate and permanent cessation of hostilities” in the text of the Security Council resolution.

Russia described the action of the United States in line with the country’s attempt to ensure the killing of the Palestinian people by Israel. Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, said: “Washington is playing a wicked game to include the license to kill Palestinian civilians by Israel.”

The approval of the new resolution took place while the voting on it was postponed four times in the past days. Finally, the American representative announced on Friday that he is ready to vote on the new amended text.

Since the beginning of the Zionist regime’s attacks on the Gaza Strip on October 7, the American government has declared its full and unequivocal support for the operations of this regime in Gaza.

By repeating the Zionist narrative, the US government has vetoed several resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
