Increased arrests of extremist Zionists opposed to military service

PNN – The Zionist newspaper Ma’ariv reported that, on the orders of the Israeli cabinet’s judicial advisor, the Israeli army is preparing to increase arrests among ultra-Orthodox Zionists who refuse to serve in the army.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, this Israeli media outlet added that this decision may create severe political tensions within the Israeli cabinet and even lead to its collapse, as the religious parties that are part of the ruling coalition oppose any forced military service of ultra-Orthodox Jews.

The issue of exempting Haredis (ultra-Orthodox) from service has been one of the major political challenges in Israel and has led to widespread protests among opponents of this special privilege.

Three police officers were injured in a confrontation between Israeli police and hundreds of ultra-Orthodox Zionists in the center of occupied Jerusalem over the cancellation of Jewish extremists’ exemption from military service.

These tensions arose after a large number of ultra-Orthodox Jews demonstrated in protest against the occupation regime’s new military law, which revokes their military exemption.

This demonstration comes after the Zionist regime is trying to compensate for the severe shortage of military personnel in the occupied territories by revoking the exemption from military service for Haredis (ultra-Orthodox).

This is while observers report severe censorship of news about Israeli military casualties and strict orders to the media not to publish such news without coordination with the relevant authorities.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet, through its coalition representatives in the Israeli Knesset (parliament), recently approved a draft law exempting Haredi men from compulsory military service in the first reading in the Knesset.

Secularists and leftists want to force Haredis into compulsory military service, and rightists, while defending them, refuse to force them to do so.

Haredis currently do not serve in the military and spend their lives in religious schools.

Due to a shortage of personnel, the Israeli army recently requested the dispatch of Haredi Zionists to “somewhat alleviate the shortage of personnel.”

Israel Army Radio reported that as of July last year, only four percent of the three thousand eligible Haredi men had agreed to join the army.
