PNN – British Ministry of Labor and Pensions announced on Thursday in an official report that the number of children who have become poor in the country has increased.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, quoted by the French news agency, according to the statistics obtained by March 2023, 4.33 million British children live in low-income families, the ministry said.
The highest figure that was recorded before was related to the 12 months ending in March 2020, when the number of these children was 4.28 million. This figure was about 4.22 million in March 2022.

In another part of the report of the British Ministry of Work and Pensions, it is stated that about 600,000 more people, half of whom are children, have fallen into absolute poverty, and the number of these people has reached about 12 million.
Absolute poverty is defined as a condition where every household lives with less than 50% of the average income after deducting housing costs.
“The annual poverty statistics confirm that the government has failed to protect vulnerable people from the cost of living crisis,” said Peter Matich, senior analyst at the Joseph Rowantree Foundation.
According to AFP, these statistics show that the rapid increase in energy prices after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has pushed more Britons into poverty.
