Indian Foreign Minister: Talks with Iran on Strait of Hormuz were ‘productive’

Foreign Minister

PNN – Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said talks with Iran were “bearing fruit” after two Indian-flagged gas tankers passed through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Jaishankar said in an interview with the Financial Times published on Sunday: I am currently engaged in negotiations with them (Iran) and my negotiations have yielded results.

He added: Certainly, from India’s perspective, it’s better for us to reason and coordinate and come to a solution than not to do so… So if this allows others to participate in some way, I think the world will be better for it.

Iran will drown Trump in the Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has asked China and Washington’s allies to help secure the strait, which has been virtually closed since the war began. About 20 percent of the world’s oil passes through the strait.

The Indian government announced in a statement on Saturday that two Indian-flagged ships carrying 92,712 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday and are en route to India.

India, the world’s most populous country, is one of the world’s largest importers of LPG, which its residents use for everything from cooking to fueling many vehicles. South Asia is particularly vulnerable given its heavy dependence on oil and gas imports from the Middle East.

The government added that 22 Indian-flagged ships with 611 sailors are on the water west of the Strait of Hormuz.

Jaishankar told the Financial Times that he would be “happy” to “share” what India was doing with other European countries.

He told the Financial Times that India and Iran have a “history of engaging with each other” and denied that Tehran has received anything in return.

Jaishankar emphasized: India and Iran have a relationship. And this is a conflict that we find very regrettable.
