International Lawmakers: Israel’s attack on Iran was illegal.

German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz once again supported the Israeli military attacks on Iran during a parliamentary question-and-answer session. This is despite the fact that some international law experts have expressed doubts about the legality of these actions under international law.

In response to a question from a member of the Left Party about a recent parliamentary report in which lawyers had expressed concerns about the legitimacy of the Israeli airstrikes on Iran, Mertz claimed: “I have no doubts about the legitimacy and legality of what Israel has done.”

He claimed that “Israel has been attacked almost daily for years and has the right to defend itself militarily.”

He also stated, referring to the events of October 7, 2023 (Operation Al-Aqsa Storm): “Since that date, it has become clear to everyone that military threats are real and must be taken with the utmost seriousness.”

Despite the political support of some Western governments, such as Meretz, for the Zionist regime’s aggressive actions, international law experts have considered these attacks to be contrary to the principles of international law in an official report commissioned by the German parliament and interpreted Iran’s actions within the framework of its legitimate right to self-defense.

According to IRNA, during the war, Meretz made rare statements acknowledging the Zionist regime’s destructive role in the region and describing the regime’s recent attacks on Iran as “dirty work” that, in his opinion, Israel is carrying out on behalf of Western powers.

In thought-provoking remarks, he acknowledged the Zionist regime’s destructive role in regional developments and, by describing the regime’s recent aggressive actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran as “dirty work,” effectively admitted to the illegal and inhuman nature of these operations.
