Rain Kamilova, a 28-year-old international student from Uzbekistan, said that her country’s close relationship with the United States has forced them to obtain one-year visas that allow them to decide to return to their country every year or stay in the United States indefinitely.

Considering the history of the Trump administration in restricting the entry of students from some countries to America, the concern of this international student is that if he returns to his country, it will not be possible to extend his visa.

Kamilova said the situation is difficult. Getting visas in the Trump administration is scary; the rate of visa rejections is higher than usual, especially for developing or Muslim countries. The opposition to issuing visas for applicants from Uzbekistan is at the highest level, around 60%, and this student expects this rate to increase.

Helios Hages, a 27-year-old international student from Switzerland, also expressed his concern about maintaining his student visa in the new American government: Trump’s actions in the past mean he could make things difficult for people like him who need visas to complete their education.

International students ask their universities to support them for now. In this context, Kamilova said that his university should provide a place for him to live with a discount or provide financial support for students to use the dormitory between two semesters.
