Iraq Protests Strongly Over British Ambassador’s Intrusive Comments on Hashd al-Shaabi.

Following the brazen and interventionist statements made by the British Ambassador to Iraq, “Irfan Siddiq”, regarding the Popular Mobilization Forces, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement today expressing its strong protest against the statements made by the British diplomat on August 8, calling them a violation of diplomatic norms and interference in Iraq’s internal affairs.

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in its statement to this effect: In a meeting held at the ministry’s headquarters, Deputy Foreign Minister for Bilateral Affairs, Mohammed Hussein Bahr al-Uloom, expressed the Iraqi government’s concern over these statements and stressed that such behavior is contrary to the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations; a convention that obliges diplomats to respect the laws of the host country and refrain from interfering in their internal affairs.

The ministry called on the British ambassador to refrain from any statements or activities similar to his recent statements and announced: “We emphasize the need to adhere to constructive diplomatic relations and the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.”
