Iraq: Recognition of “Somaliland” is a direct threat to stability in the Horn of Africa.

According to the official Iraqi News Agency (WAA), the Iraqi Foreign Ministry condemned in a statement the recognition of the so-called “Somaliland” republic, stressing that this action is a clear violation of the sovereignty of countries and a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter.

Iraq, as the rotating chairman of the Arab League, noted: The recognition of Somaliland by the Zionist regime is a clear violation of the sovereignty of the brotherly country of Somalia and its territorial integrity, and undermines efforts to maintain security and stability in the region.

The statement states: Iraq considers such illegitimate steps a direct threat to the stability of the Horn of Africa region and leads to a complication of the regional situation and an increase in tensions, which will harm international peace and security.

The statement of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry states: Iraq once again reiterates its consistent position in supporting and respecting the sovereignty of countries and their national unity, and does not accept efforts to impose a new reality against the national will.

Iraq also called on the international community and regional and global organizations to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities and take clear positions on these illegal actions to preserve international legitimacy and the sovereignty of countries.

Israeli Prime Minister recognized the “Republic of Somaliland” as an independent and sovereign state on Friday.

Netanyahu’s office added that the agreement with Somaliland was made within the framework of the agreements known as the “Abraham Accords.

Somaliland is part of Somalia’s northern territory and has been recognized as an autonomous region for many years; however, until 2025, Israel will be the only UN member state to recognize Somaliland.
