Iraqi election results are disappointing for Washington.

Al-Akhbar newspaper wrote in its report on the results of the Iraqi parliamentary elections that the political presence of Iraqi resistance groups in parliament has been strengthened and increased.

According to the newspaper, the election results have led to further gains for the political branches of the resistance groups in the Iraqi parliament and a reduction in the power of forces and movements close to the United States.

Al-Akhbar newspaper added: The Shiite “Coordination Framework” coalition, which constitutes the “largest parliamentary faction,” is trying to elect a new prime minister in a short period of time. The coalition is also trying to reach a “single decision” that will ensure the faction’s cohesion and limit foreign interference.

According to the newspaper, Iraqi resistance groups have won more than 25 seats in parliament, including Kataib Hezbollah, which has won 7 seats alone, and this presence is an obstacle to Washington’s desire to limit these groups.

Al-Akhbar added: Washington is increasing its public pressure on Baghdad as the administration of US President Donald Trump is trying to tie Iraq’s political and economic stability to a set of conditions related to the “disarmament of the resistance groups” through financial and trade instruments, especially the issue of dollar transfers and the Federal Reserve window.

According to the newspaper, multiple sources revealed that Trump’s envoy to Iraq, Mark Savia, had previously held meetings in Baghdad and delivered direct messages from the White House to the country’s political leaders during these meetings. Some of these messages emphasized “the need to choose a government figure who has a playful approach towards Washington.”

Al-Akhbar added that despite these pressures, the US understands that it cannot escalate its confrontation with Iraq too much because Iraq is very important for the US in the fight against terrorism and the stability of energy markets, which is pushing Washington to adopt a carrot-and-stick policy towards it.

According to the Al-Akhbar newspaper, Iraqi political analyst Abdul Sattar al-Issawi said that Washington was “disappointed” by the election results.

The newspaper added that: “In this situation, diplomatic sources in Baghdad confirm that an American delegation is preparing to travel to Iraq to convey new messages to Iraqi politicians about the shape of the next Iraqi government.”

According to the Al-Akhbar newspaper, independent Iraqi politician Dawood al-Qaisi said that Iraq has entered a very sensitive stage and “what we see in Iraq today reflects a complex reality, because any step towards the formation of the next government cannot be separated from regional and international influences.”
