Iraqi official: Al-Hol camp is like a ticking time bomb

PNN – Iraq’s Deputy Minister of Immigration announced the repatriation of 230 more families from the dangerous Al-Hol camp in Syria, calling the camp a ticking time bomb.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing the Iraqi Wa’e News Agency, Karim Al-Nouri, the Deputy Minister of Immigration of Iraq, likened the survival of the Al-Hol camp to a time bomb and stated: The ministry repatriated 230 families from Al-Hol camp in northeastern Syria in the 29th phase, as part of the plan to dismantle this camp, which is considered a danger to Iraq and the world.

Al-Nouri added: The social rehabilitation program has helped integrate returnees from this camp and ensure their return to their original areas, and so far no security anomalies have been recorded among them.

Regarding the overall statistics of people returning from this camp, the Iraqi Deputy Minister of Immigration also stated: So far, 16,000 people have returned from this camp, 10,000 of whom have returned to their original areas, and the remaining 6,000 are still at the Al-Jada’a Mental Rehabilitation Center.

Al-Nouri also noted: Iraq still has 21 camps inside the country, 15 of which are located in Dohuk and six in Erbil, while around 20,000 families, most of whom are from the Sinjar region, reside in these camps.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Immigration will continue to implement the government’s plan to close the camps through the voluntary return of displaced people to their original areas.
