PNN – An Iraqi official announced that imminent danger did not cause the evacuation of the US embassy in Baghdad.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, an informed Iraqi official, who asked not to be named, told Al-Mayadeen that the announcement regarding the reduction in the number of staff at the US embassy in Baghdad was received by the authorities on Wednesday, while planning for this action had begun three weeks ago.
The source emphasized that the announcement was not made based on the existence of an imminent threat, but rather to help the diplomats’ families plan for a possible evacuation.

According to the source, the process of evacuating employees and their families has not yet begun, but it is expected to begin on Thursday.
According to the report, however, key members of the diplomatic mission, including the US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires in Baghdad, will remain in place and the embassy will continue to operate.
On the other hand, a US military official told Al-Mayadeen that the US Central Command (CENTCOM) is closely monitoring developments related to the increase in tensions in the Middle East region.
He added: The health and security of American service members and their families are top priorities for the United States.
The US official also emphasized that, by order of the US Secretary of Defense, permission has been granted for the voluntary departure of military families from deployments affiliated with Central Command.
