Iraqi resistance: Our national interests will guide our response to Trump’s envoy.
According to Baghdad Today, US President Donald Trump’s envoy for Iraq, Mark Sawiya, clearly stated that “his priority in Iraq is to dismantle the Iraqi (resistance) groups.” This statement reflects a more aggressive approach by the current US administration compared to previous governments in the country.
Trump’s envoy for Iraq, who was appointed to this position six days ago, said in an aggressive tone, along with a promise to transform relations between Baghdad and Washington: “We will work with all Iraqi parties to ensure a strong Iraq so that it can be a true partner of the United States – away from regional conflicts.”
He also claimed: “I want to make Iraq great again, and a new page of cooperation has practically begun.”
According to the report, these statements by the US envoy were quickly responded to from within Iraq.
A source close to the Iraqi (resistance) groups stressed in an interview with Baghdad Al-Youm that the fixed principles of the (resistance) will not change whether Trump is represented or not.
He also stressed that the decisions of these groups stem primarily from Iraq’s national interests.
The source, who did not mention his name to Baghdad Al-Youm, added: These groups do not pay attention to Western or American reports, which often contain planned or exaggerated messages to damage their image in the public eye.
He added that these groups work in constant coordination with the Iraqi government, and there are no fundamental differences between them.
The source clarified that “the weapons of the (resistance) groups are the weapons of the Iraqis to prevent any internal or external aggression, and it is unacceptable for a foreign party to determine their fate.”
He added: “These weapons have made the most glorious sacrifices, expelling the occupiers, confronting the extremists, and liberating cities (from terrorists).
The source concluded by emphasizing that “(Resistance) groups are a part of the people’s soul that cannot be taken away from them by external decisions or will.”
